I see Scout as a statue that Atticus built. It may be a weird way of thinking about her, but to me, it makes sense. Atticus has tried to be the best father possible, and he definitely did a good job. Scout has been his work of art. He taught her everything he knows. As the book progresses, we have seen her childhood innocence go away. For some kids her age, when their innocence goes away, they start becoming misbehaved or they become rebels. However, since Atticus played as a huge role model for Scout, she has become more like him. Scout has taught me to appreciate those who work to make me the best version of myself, whether they are teachers or parents.
Lastly, Jem. Jem is a good big brother to Scout, even when he is going through one of his "moments". Even though he does not like going with her in public, He will defend her with his life if she is ever in trouble. He includes her in all of his games, and treats her as an equal for the most part. Like Scout, he also mirrors Atticus's actions, which makes him a much better person than if he didn't. Jem has taught me to be a good brother to all of my siblings, and also my friends. He is there for Scout when she needs him. That is a virtue that I want to have. I want to be able to have others feel comfortable laying their heads on my shoulder. I have learned so much from these blog post reflections and I am both sad and happy to click and drag this final meme, but remember to stay positive and look forward to our next units!
