In class, we read about everyone in Maycomb county preferring to not talk or discuss about Tom's trial because they all deep down know that he was innocent. Bob had gotten job, but later was fired since he wasn't working as hard. Helen had also gotten a job to work for Mr. Link Deas even though he didn't really need much more help. Mr. Link found out that Helen had been walking a mile extra to work. Every time, she would walk home from work, she would get harassed by Bob and he would always follow her to work. One day, Mr. Link walks home with Helen so Bob would stop harassing her. As he was coming back, he told Bob to stop harassing Helen or else he would put him in jail for using that kind of language towards Helen. She also had to wear a meat costume for a halloween pageant and had to run as part of the act in the school play. Then, she couldn't change back into her clothes on her way home and she was embarrassed of ruining the pageant, so she wanted to wait for everyone else to leave before she would go herself. She also didn't want to take her costume off since it was completely dark and no one was around. as they were walking home, they noticed a man following them. After a while, the man attacked them and was choking scout and broke Jem's arm. Heck tate later found Bob ewell with a knife under his ribs, which was shown to us that Bob was a coward by not facing Atticus himself, but going after his kids. We later found out that it was Boo that saved Jem and Scout.
I think that Boo Radley is only being nice to Jem and scout because he knows that they still have some childhood innocence in them and he is trying to make them realize what Maycomb really is. My oher "theory" is that Boo is only saving Jem and scout is because he has great respect for Atticus, so he focuses on them. I also think that Bob was harassing Helen because she was Tom's wife and he probably looked down at her since he used to look down at Tom. Bob was only looking down at the African Americans since the others of Maycomb used to look down at him.
