For my blog post I will be taking the evidence we have learned so far in the Mock trial and come to a conclusion. The three witnesses we have heard from are Heck Tate, and Mayella and Robert Ewell. In chapter eighteen we learn more about how the rape went down. We will start from the beginning of all the evidence. By the way in this I am the only juror, so through the evidence I will look to see who I think is guilty. Throughout this I will also try to see through what the real jurors think(Adapting their mind set)
We start with Heck Tate Heck Tate is the sheriff of Maycomb, and goes to accidents like this. Atticus tries to learn about Mayella’s injuries, and learns they occur from the right side of the body. Atticus tries to learn why a doctor wasn’t called, and almosts starts to badger the witness. Eventually Atticus is done interviewing Heck Tate. In my eyes I would believe Atticus was ahead in the trial. However in the jurors eyes I would expect most of them to still be on the Ewells side, but still intrigued by Atticus’s question of why they didn’t call a doctor.
The second witness called is Robert Ewell. Robert Ewell is manipulated by Atticus during his testimony as we know. Atticus makes the environment for the Ewell to look easy, but then he uses Bob’s ego against him, and has him right his name. We learn he is left handed. This is so crucial to the case, because Mayella was beaten on her right side, and a left hand had to do it. I think know that I would be in the middle. I wouldn’t know who to believe, but if I were to chose I would pick the Ewell’s, because all I know is that Tom Robinson is left handed. If I were a actual juror in that book during the trial I would assume they would still put Tom Robinson as guilty, because Rob was able to cause a uproar in the crowd, and it might of affected jurors.
Know finally we're onto the person who claims she was raped by Tom, Mayella Ewell. From Atticus we learn a lot about her through questioning. We know she is the oldest. We learn that her dad is tolerable, until he is drunk. Then Atticus gets her to tell how it happens(the rape). Mayella contradicts herself many times which would look fishy to the jury I would assume. Many people are starting to come to the conclusion it has to be a left handed person, which Tom might be, but that is crushed. Tom stands up and shows that his left hand is a foot shorter than his right hand. An accident occurred when he was younger. This helps prove their is almost little way he could've raped Mayella. At first I think the jury was coming to the decision because she was playing her role nicely by crying at times creating trust, but when they saw Tom’s hand, I believe at least one jury member was seriously debating if Tom was innocent. For me I would be convinced Tom isn’t guilty.
I really like your blog post. It is very thorough and involves your opinion. I also agree that Tom isn't guilty, but I think the jury's ignorance will overpower the truth. I like how your memes appropriately fit with the subject. Lastly, I like how you presented all of the evidence, Heck Tate-Mayella, and came to a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteWell done on your blog post. I really liked how you put yourself in the position of the jury for the trial. I also liked how you added what you thought of each testimony. Great job.
