There was a lot of things that happened in this chapter. We found out that Tom Robinson, is a cripple. we also found out that Mayella, if a very strong and a very emotional nineteen year old. Mr. Gilmer, gives his signature direct examination to Mayelle, He asks her to tell him what happened in her own words. She states, that she asked Tom to come over and do something for her. From there, she states that he come up behind her and abused her and raped her. She said that she fought back, but he was much stronger than her. When Attica's when to go question her, she started to get worried, and was judge Taylor, said that all Atticus was a a very respectable person in Maycomb. Mayella tells Judge Taylor, that she is scared that Atticus will do the same thing that he did to her father. Atticus, is trying to state, that Bob is a bad father, however Mayella doesn't answer. She rarely answers any question of Atticus's, besides the one about Tom Robinson. Mayella, has a lot that she is hiding.
I believe that Mayella knows that Atticus is on to their story. I think that Bob Ewell, just wanted to find a way to justify his actions against his daughter. He beat her over. He probably beat her over and over again, When he was drunk. Because Mayella, never went to school, and probably spent lots of her time with her flowers, it kept her away from a public eye from asking what those bruises were from. One thing that really bugs me, is why did they pick Tom? what has he ever done to deserve this? I feel that because the Ewells wanted to show the rest of Maycomb, that they have some sort of power, because everyone else has power on the Ewells.

I really liked your post here. I think you made a really good point about Mayella knowing that Atticus is on her case. I think that she is trying to come across as an emotional teenager. To answer your question, I think they chose Tom because he lived near their house, and he was the first one they thought of. I liked your blog post overall though.
ReplyDeleteThis post is done well. I dont really agree with you when you said He beat her over. He probably beat her over and over again, When he was drunk." I feel that if he would beat her then she would scream and yell and create more of a seen with that. Other then that great post.
