Now that we have seen all signs of being a coward; Running, attacking innocent people, and hiding. This leaves us with three different scenarios for Atticus's turn. I think Bob will do one of these three coward actions. If he chooses to be a runner, maybe he will try to steal something of importance to Atticus. He will sneak in his house and cause some kind of trouble. If he does, then it will end with him running away at the sight of a weapon or something that can hurt him. Maybe if he tries to get inside the house and steal something, he will be confronted by Jem with his rifle. That is when Jem will headshot Bob before he can make an escape. The second scenario is Bob attacking someone innocent who is related to Atticus. Maybe Bob will attack the kids at some point, maybe he will attack Cal for being an African American. Bob clearly has a hate for black people who haven't laid a finger on him, so Cal could be the victim of some kind of verbal abuse or perhaps even physical abuse. The same could go if he decides to attack Scout and or Jem, but that might be a little too much of a cowardly attack even for Bob. I would place my money on Calpurnia being the victim of this situation. The last scenario we have is hiding. I think that Bob could maybe simply hide from everyone in Maycomb. He is way too shameful to be able to harass the weakest, or to steal from the people who are doing their jobs. So, he will just stick inside his house and become the next Boo Radley. They will call him Boo Ewell from now on.

Watch Out Atticus! (Prediction)
Bob Ewell, the man who is out to get three different people, is a coward. So far, he has done two coward things to two people who were just doing their job, and one of them had nothing to do with the case. Bob has been trespassing on Judge Taylor's property for revenge. He wants revenge for making him look like an idiot in front of the whole courtroom. Bob should have never acted so nonchalant during the case, or he might have actually never been exposed so hard. When he went to go to trespass on Judge Taylor's property, he fled as soon as he saw Judge Taylor with a shotgun in his lap. This is the first sign of being a coward. He ran after acting so tough at the sight of a man in his own home. The next sign of being a coward is being aggressive towards Helen. Helen is the wife of Tom, or at least she was. Now a widow, she works hard and makes a choice of either walking a whole extra mile to work everyday, or be verbally harassed by a drunk everyday on her way to work. Thankfully, Link Deas is there to protect her from Bob. He stands up for her and he threatens Bob that he will put him in jail for the "Lady's Law" or for harassment. Of course, Bob is a coward so he hides behind his fence. He is aggressive towards Helen, who has done nothing to him. Now that Tom is dead, he has to pick on Helen for some reason unknown to anyone who is right-minded.

This was a good summary of what had happened to Helen and I also liked the theory you put into this with the different scenarios of Bob being too much of a coward to face Atticus. I also liked your other theory of Bob eventually becoming another "Boo" since he would be isolating himself in his house to avoid hatred. Overall, this was a good summary and theories you put in here!
ReplyDeleteThis post was done very well. I liked when you said "s Bob attacking someone innocent who is related to Atticus. Maybe Bob will attack the kids at some point." You ended up being right, Bob did attack them. I also believe that Bob could have killed himself. Maybe he thought that what he was doing was wrong and decided to kill himself. BUt that is just my theory. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good blog post! I like how you gave examples on how Bob is a coward. Although this prediction wasn't right, it was still a good attempt.
