The longest journey might explain why Jem broke his arm!!

Today is the first day of school after Christmas break and not everyone is excited about it. However, to us the eighth graders, chapter 28 makes us feel better again. There are many things that are both hilarious and mysterious happen in this chapter.
Halloween is coming in Maycomb town so each student will have a role in a pageant. Scout is a ham and she is very proud of her role. When Mrs. Merriweather calls "Pork", Scout will walk to the stage and then go back. When we read to this part, Mr. Boyle stopped and showed us what it looks like when Scout comes out with her ham costume and I found it really funny. Jem and Scout arrive to the auditorium and meet Cecil Jacobs. Jem gives Scout thirty cents and leaves her to play with Cecil Jacobs. They go into the haunted house but they find nothing interesting because they know what are the human organs made off. Then, the pageant starts with a long speech from Mrs. Merriweather. Scout excitedly waits backstage until Mrs. Merriweather calls her but she suddenly falls asleep. She then wakes up and realizes she should go on stage. However, Scout ends up stump into Mrs. Merriweather while she is holding the flag. Everybody has a big laugh because of Scout. After the pageant, Scout is so embarrassed that she doesn't want to change her clothes and waits until everybody leaves. She also forgets her shoes but Jem says she can get it tomorrow and they walk home.

I think that it's dangerous to just let two of them go there and go back home by themselves. By the time they leave, it is dark and no one is around. This shows that there will be something happen to Jem and Scout. My theory is that Bob Ewell will attack Jem and Scout because he knows he cannot fight against Atticus. He is scared. Because Jem protect Scout from Bob, Jem will break his arm and cannot play football anymore. Then, someone will appear and protect Jem and Scout. The person could be Boo, Atticus or Judge Taylor. I hope that Jem and Scout will know who Boo really is and see his face in person.

  1. Nhi, This is a really good blog post. I liked your summary. It was very interesting the way you put things. I got a feeling that you knew what was going to happen ,and said it at the bottom, but otherwise, it was really great. Good job
