My Opinion on To Kill a Mockingbird

So we finally finished the book. As Mr. Boyle has said, the book has been the bane of our existence since October. After reading about four hundred pages, taking a huge law test, and discussing the book, I can definitely say that I loved this book. I thought that it was an amazing book. To Kill a Mockingbird is a work of pure genius. In my opinion, Harper Lee made a masterpiece. There are many reasons why this book is amazing. first of all, the characters are all unique and all of them have special roles to play. There are a few characters that act as metaphorical mockingbirds. They are people who have done nothing wrong yet they get punished. Probably the greatest example of a metaphorical mockingbird is Tom. Tom was a man who only wanted to help out Mayella. He knew she didn't have the best family and didn't have many friends. He believed that he was doing something small that was just the right thing to do. However, that little deed that he did lead to his death. Things like this are what give the book character. Second of all, the book is very emotional. It will make you happy, sad, angry, or scared. Every emotion can be felt while reading this book. Finally, I think that the book gives some very good commentary on how people had thought back in the 1930s. This book gives us an idea of how the average ignorant American thought back then about racism and mental disabilities. I am comfortable in calling everyone in this book (except for maybe Atticus, Jem, Miss Maudie, and Scout) ignorant when it comes to mental disabilities. Why do I say this? Well its quite simple, they didn't have the technology that we have today. Of course, they wouldn't know why Arthur acts.
Now that we have finished the book I can definitely say that this book was better Of Mice and Men. I thought that this one had more emotion and had a better story. I can tell that Mr. Boyle put these two books together because they both take place at the same time. I think it would be clever if Mr. Boyle made the books be read in order of when they take place. Anyways, this book is amazing and I think it has been a while since I really got into a book this size.

  1. Your blog post is amazing, Pablo. I agreed with all your opinion about this book. It was so meaningful for us to know and read this book. I really liked how you call Boo with his real name Arthur and I think because you don't want to be an ignorant person. This is a last blog post in this unit so it's a little sad for me. Overall, you did a nice job.

  2. I agreed with almost everything you've said in this post. I really enjoyed this book too. I loved the characters(except for the Ewells), and they had big impacts on making the story what it is. We definitely experienced pretty much every emotion possible in this book. Overall, good job, this was fun to read.

  3. GOod job Pablo! when you said "I think it would be clever if Mr. Boyle made the books be read in order of when they take place." Yes that is true, and also it connects on Boo and Lennie and how they are connected because they are not welcomed by society
