Bad vibe from this reading...and foreshadowing

In this reading, some quite interesting things happen. The pageant was going to start in about . Scout and Jem was going to the auditorium so that Scout could be the ham in the pageant. Jem walked Scout over to the place because it was pitch dark. I think it was pretty nice of Jem to walk Scout over, but he should always do stuff like that because he is her brother. It was pitch black on Halloween, and it sure did feel like a scary scene. I don't know why Boo Radley didn't pop out and do something he is assumed to do. When Jem and Scout were leaving, I had a bad vibe, that someone was going to do something like harm them. They are literally a corner and a few houses away from home but I still think something is going to happen. It is pitch black, the only thing that is probably giving them light is cars driving by, or if there is ones still leaving the auditorium. I think someone would attack the two kids like Boo Radley, but I know that something weird would happen while Scout and Jem are walking home. Someone I thought who could come out would be someone like Bob Ewell, or some other dangerous person. I think he would try to kidnap the kids, or harm them in some kind of way. I just have the feeling something is going to happen because Scout is stuck in a ham costume with no shoes on, and Jem has to hold on to her to make sure she doesn't fall or trip. I got a laugh out of Scout falling asleep and then waking up a few seconds after "Pork!" was called, and ended up crashing into Mrs. Merriweather. Mrs. Merriweather was a bit rude about it, Scout made a mistake and Mrs. Merriweather has made even worse mistakes...(talking about Atticus behind his back, in his house, eating his food, and sitting in his furniture..) luckily Miss Maudie called her out for that, but I think Aunt Alexandra should've been the person to stand up to Mrs. Merriweather. I also got a laugh with Judge Taylor knee slapping and dying if laughter, laughing so bad Mrs. Taylor had to come in and give him a glass of water with a pill.
I looked up 1930s halloween in Google Images, and this is what I found. I can imagine something like this lurking around while Jem and Scout are walking back. Hopefully they get back home safely to Atticus or Calpurnia, or whoever might even be there...Bob Ewell? Coyotito comes back for revenge to kidnap Scout and Jem?

  1. This was an accurate description of the chapter. I had a bad feeling too during the chapter. I agree that though Scout made a big mistake, Mrs. Merriweather has made many big mistakes too. This photo you put is scarring me for awhile, so... thanks I guess.

  2. Very well done on your blog post. I agree with you about the bad vibe feeling too. I knew going into the reading today that something bad was going to happen, and it did. Scout was hurt, but Jem was hurt worse. We just have to hope now that he gets better! Your photo creeped me out a bit, but thanks for showing me what a good ol' Halloween looks like back in Jem and Scout's time!
