Chapter Nine

IN chapter nine, we get a lot of information about the Finches family. We know that Atticus has a nephew named Francis, who is extremely annoying. He is very mean to scout in this chapter. He tells her that her father is a n***** lover, and that Atticus will be the ruination of the family an' he'll let scout and jem run wild. HE also called Scout a w****-lady. Because of this, Scout unleashed all of her anger onto Francis. She punched him so hard that her left hand was injured and she was going to punch him with her right, however Uncle Jack came over and he punished her.
Uncle Jack, is the youngest sibling of Atticus and Alexandria. He is a doctor. However he is the only Doctor that Scout likes, because he doesn't act like all of the normal doctors. He is unmarried and does not want children. We learn this, when he is talking to Atticus. He is like a second father to scout. He talks to her about her language, because it is not polite and not lady-like. He has a lot to learn about treating children. One lesson that Scout teaches his is the lesson on hearing both sides of the story.
In the example that Scout gave Uncle Jack was with Francis and her. He didn't once even ask what her side of the story was, he went straight to the punishment. I think that this lesson, is the main lesson that we are going to think about during the trial. We must see and hear each side of the story, before we give a verdict. This is just the same as being ignorant towards others without getting to know that person. If I were to judge someone, and then get to know them later, it may be too late, and something could have happened. If we don't hear the side of each story. In the case of Tom Robinson, the jury probably won't listen to Tom's side of the story, like they should, Because of this, the case is just the Ewells, versus an African American Man who "raped white women".

  1. I like how you began with the Christmas party events. Talking about Francis was inevitable, mainly because he is just so annoying and plays a big part in the chapter. I like how you summed up everything we learned about Uncle Jack, and the parts he plays in the chapter including him chastising Scout and Scout getting angry. I like how you explain how both sides need to be addressed before we give a verdict. It was great that you threw in some Tom Robinson's case in the topic of judging.

  2. Your post was amazing. To be honest, if Francis was saying that to my face about my father, we would have the same issues. I see Uncle Jack as a second father a little bit, but not a lot. Especially after him punishing Scout and didn't even let her explain what really happened.
