In chapter 12, Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to the church. Calpurnia wants Scout to wear dress and Jem wears shirt and tie, she also baths them before they go. For me, I see that there is similarity between Calpurnia and Alexandra, Jem and Scout's aunt. Aunt Alexandra wants people to look at the good things of herself and her family so she is trying to change many things, especially Scout. Aunt Alexandra wants her to behave like a lady, not a tomboy, she also disagree about what Atticus is doing. About Calpurnia, she wants the others at the church to judge her well because she takes care of Jem and Scout.
At the church, the Reverend Sykes talks about Tom Robinson and his wife, Helen. The Reverend wants people in the church to help them by donate their money, about ten dollars. After everyone comes forward and drops nickels and dimes into a black enameled coffee can, Reverend Sykes checks and there are not enough money. He calls out to people and wants they put in more money, he shuts the door until they have enough ten dollars to give to Helen, Tom Robinson's wife. For me, I thinks that the Reverend has go so far. Help other people is a good things to do but the Reverend can't use that way to make people put in their money, he can think of a different way.

I like your post. Its really different. I liked how you compared Aunt Alexandra and Calpurnia it's something great to do. There where some differences and similarities.
ReplyDeleteI like how you compared Aunt Alexandra and Calpurnia because they want to be proud of their kids from their behavioral skills and physical appearance. I like how you summarized the mass with Calpurnia, but it would be much better if you had put some of your own experiences or thoughts on that, too. Overall a great post.
ReplyDeleteI liked your post because I think you made good connections between the characters. I never thought of Cal and Aunt Alexandra being similar in that way. Finally, I liked how you pointed out that the way reverend Sykes collected the money he went so far.
ReplyDeleteI like your post. I was't a fan of what happened at the church. They should've let them be and tolerated that Jem and Scout were there. Lula dind't set the best example.
