Back Up Because I'm Gettin' Mad..

In the chapter that we read, Mrs. Maudie's house burned to the ground. When everyone was sound asleep, all of a sudden Mrs. Maudie's house just burned to bits and pieces. Personally, I have never experienced this in my life. The closest I have been to a house fire was when a person's house caught on fire about two blocks away from my house. That enough was already kind of scary and had me worried, but imagine Mrs. Maudie. You would think that she would be traumatized, but no. She is enthusiastic about her house getting absolutely destroyed and wrecked. The only reason she isn't jumping for joy at this point is because she woke up the whole citizens of Maycomb. To me, that kind of doesn't make sense because wouldn't she want people to wake up and help her? Anyways, seconds before the house collapsed, Atticus told Jem and Scout to stay in front of the Radley house. They obeyed their father and stayed put the whole time. However, when the kids went back to the house for some food, Atticus noticed something strange. Eventually, he realized what had happened, but decided to play with the kids' heads. He pretended to be angry and he asked Jem and Scout why they disobeyed him. Jem and Scout insisted that they followed his directions. Then, Atticus asks where they got that blanket that is over Scout's body. Jem and Scout start freaking out as they frantically explain to Atticus that they know nothing of the blanket. They then realize that Boo was the one who crept behind Scout and wrapped her in the blanket without her knowing, making them even more scared. As a result, Jem confesses everything to Atticus, including the time when he went in Boo's backyard. Atticus is not angry because he already knew the whole time.
Related imageAs I already mentioned, I have never experienced a major fire. Other than my distant neighbor's house, the only other fire I experienced was at school. The girl's bathroom somehow caught on fire, which was strange, but it meant we got an extra thirty minutes of recess. Also, I have no weird neighbors that Jem and Scout seem to have. The only neighbor that I find strange is my next door neighbor who reminds me of Mrs. Maudie. I don't know if he's okay, but I occasionally find him watering his plants. It only gets weird because he does it in the middle of winter. I guess he is really committed to his garden, but he is still a little sketchy sometimes. My dad sort of reminds me of a failed version of Mrs. Maudie. In the spring and summer, he always spends so much money on seeds and is very committed, at first. After about two weeks he completely neglects his flowers and never has a successful garden. The only time he actually did something with his garden was last summer. He grew really vibrant red and orange flowers, but a some neighbor came in and chopped off the heads of them. It is sad because my dad was proud, but I find it sort of funny that the one time he actually gets the job done, someone else ruins it. We still have no idea who did it.

  1. This was a great blog post! I like how you gave a thorough summary. I like how you related the chapter with your dad. I also like how you tell the reader about how you never have seen a major fire.

  2. Amazing job here! I really enjoyed reading this. I do remember the girls bathroom being on fire, and to me that was very scary. However, just like the community in Maycomb, we all came at a time of need. Great job!
