ATTICUS FINCH: A Role Model for Everyone

Image result for to kill a mockingbird funnyAfter I finished chapter nine, I got to know more about Atticus and his high moral standards. In chapter nine, Atticus told Scout was not to fight anymore even though that person made her upset. He said she should hold it back and don't do anything to that person. He explained to her that she was old enough to know what is right and wrong. Fighting doesn't solve any problem. It's a pointless thing to do. Atticus tried to fix the way Scout talked to the Negroes by saying not to say the N-word anymore. That was a big lesson for Scout and us the reader from Atticus. He didn't give in the peer pressure. He taught his daughter that we should do things that we know it's a right thing to do, not just follow other people and say it's right. Atticus said to Scout that if he didn't defend Tom, he couldn't tell her and Jem not to do something again. He meant that if he couldn't do the right things, he couldn't tell other people or even his kids to do right things. He wanted us to know that if we want to tell others to do something or to stop doing something what you think it's bad, you should do all of that things first before you give them that order. At the end of chapter ten when Atticus told Uncle Jack not to lie to children because they would believe it remember it. "Bad language is a stage all children go through, and it dies with time when they learn they're not attracting attention with it". Atticus tried to explain to Uncle Jack that he should tell the truth, explain the meaning of those words so that children will understand its meaning and won't use it again. In page 177, Atticus told Uncle Jack that he wanted and hoped Jem and Scout won't catching Maycomb's usual disease. He meant that his kids won't follow the path of Maycomb's people, tell the Negroes with the N-word and treat them equally. Furthermore, Atticus wanted Jem and Scout trusted him and learned the lessons what he taught them.

Image result for atticus finch quotesI really admire Atticus Finch. Although he is just a protagonist, a character in this book that is not real, he is a role model for everyone to learn and to behave in our lives. Every word he says teaches us a new lessons about the world that we might haven't noticed yet. I really like the part when Atticus says to Uncle Jack that he should have explained the meaning of the word Scout said to him. "Bad language is a stage all children go through, and it dies with time when they learn they're not attracting attention with it". I know that everyone knows more than one bad words that has used at least one time. In my opinion, there are two types of people using bad language. The first type is people who understand what the bad language is, understand its meaning and know when they can use it and when they cannot use it or they just don't use it.. The second type is people who don't really understand all the meaning of the word they gonna say and use it frequently. They don't aware of time and space. They don't know that those bad words could hurt people really badly.

When I was young, the conversation between me and my friends always contained bad language. We used that so often that we didn't even think of its meaning or where we should use it. A few years later, I got to know the meaning and I stopped saying those words. Now, I know that I can use it in my conversation between me and my friend but I choose not to say that out loud. Atticus teaches us, the readers, how we should behave in our society. Today, I know there are a lot of stereotypes about students' behaviors from the adult's point of view. I believe that BT students can change that thought and make a new impression to the adults.

  1. I really liked your post Nhi! I espically liked how you talked on Atticus in the last two paragraphs. I mainly liked the parts where you talked intelligently on how even though Atticus is a made up character we can still learn lessons from the things he says and how he acts. Finally, I liked your picture of Scout, I thought is was funny, and I really liked the quote picture you used because it beautifully portrays the quote.
