How I Relate to the Ham Incident

Chapter 28 is about what happened when Scout went to her pageant. Jem walked Scout to the auditorium and gave her thirty cents for her to use before she had to go on stage. She went to a haunted house with Cecil Jacobs but Scout thinks it was a waste of money because she knew that it was fake. She was supposed to be touching a human heart, which was just raw liver, then human eyes, which were peeled grapes, and intestines, which was just cold spaghetti. Then when it was time to go to the stage she was waiting on the side. While Mrs. Merriweather was talking Scout figured out how to sit down in her costume and was sleeping in no time. When it was time for Scout to go on Mrs. Merriweather called, "Pork!" three times before Scout woke up and realized what was going on. By the time Scout went running onto the stage Mrs. Merriweather had moved on and ran straight into Scout. Everyone was laughing really hard because it was so funny. Scout ended up asking Jem to stay after until everyone left because Scout was so embarrassed that she didn't want anyone to see her, and she also ended up keeping her costume on too.

This reminded me of a time that I was really embarrassed too. This previous summer I had a tryout for the Minnesota state team and I got some reps in a cornerback. My first few plays were good because there was no receptions on me, or I covered the route well but my last play was terrible. I was covering one of the best wide receivers there but when he made a double move route I broke down and slipped really bad. Even though it was only one play to me it seemed like all that mattered.

  1. Nate, This is a good post. I really liked how you summarized it, and then told your story. I know how it feels to be embarrassed in front of a lot of people, and I thought your story was funny. It was nice and short, and I can tell you found Scout's story funny. Good job overall

  2. I really liked you bog post! you had a great summary. I can 100% relate to your story. I was practicing with some girls on the high school varsity team for Holy Angels, and I was doing so well. However I messed up and I was very embarrassed, and I thought that the only memory the coaches had would be of me, messing up. At the end of practice, the trainer and the coach came up to me and said that i played very well.

  3. I liked your blog, especially your story. You have a good summary about chapter 28. You also told your story, it's kind of fun for me. I also had some case like that when I was young so I can understand your feeling.
