In chapter two, there is an important part that I want to write about. That part is when Miss Caroline patted Scout's hands with a ruler and told her to stand in the corner twice in one day. The first time, Scout, maybe, did something wrong to Miss Caroline that she thought was disrespectful and Scout should be punished. However, in the second time, Scout just wanted to explain to her that the Cunninghams were poor and Walter won't take her money. Miss Caroline thought Scout was being rude and disrespectful. She humiliated and embarrassed Scout. Although Scout was literate since she was young but she was only...six so, of course, she acted like a six year old kid. Miss Caroline should have thought that that was Scout's first day of school, and she should have forgiven Scout. Also, that day was Miss Caroline's first day of school so she should have made some good impressions to her students. I understand that she didn't get used to them right away one the first day; she didn't know who was who but for me. Beside, she wanted to show an example to the class.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, I think her punishment was a little bit strong. I know the feeling when you have to stand in front of the class and be patted by teacher. That's really embarrassed us. I remember when I was in elementary school, my teacher did that to me and my classmates frequently. If she caught someone was talking during class or someone didn't turn in his/her homework, she would do what Miss Caroline did to Scout. However, more than that, she didn't patt our hands but hit really hard. Embarrassment, sadness, and hurt all come at one time. Today, 2017, most of the teachers in elementary school or even in middle school in my country still use this way to teach their students.
I feel sad for them and want to make it won't happen in the future. One of my dreams is to change the education system in my country and change the way teachers teaching their students. I think that teachers must not punish their kids that way. As a teacher, they should love their kids, teach them how to behave well without hurting them.
This is really amazing! I love all your opinions that you put. I also agree with you that teacher should not embarrassed students in front of the class. I also like your opinion of Mrs. Caroline, that she should have made a better impression on her first day of teaching.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Nhi. This was really great. I had no idea that you were taught that way in Vietnam. I like how you summarized the story, and put in your own story. This was really good. I definatlately think that you should go on and pursue your dream about how the educating system and abuse. I had no idea they taught like that. Intresting. Way to go I really liked it.

I would say not all the teachers do that anymore. The education in Vietnam has been developed pretty much and I think that if they get the idea that their actions are wrong, they would stop doing it. But,of course, I can't deny that it is not true. There are still teachers hitting their students because they think that is the best way to teach them manners. I glad that all the students in United States have good moments when they are in elementary and I want student in Vietnam and other countries have those moments too.
